New Year Reflection!

Hello everybody! Now before I begin this post, I would like to apologise for only having Nine Posts of Christmas instead of twelve. Last week was quite a hectic week and on top of that, I had fallen quite ill and basically didn’t leave my bed. On top of all that, my Wi-Fi was down and WordPress wouldn’t allow me to post anything. Once again, my sincere apologies, and let’s make next year a better one! For my last post this year, I am doing a reflection of all the amazing (and maybe not so amazing) moments this year! An Alternate Ending…

Hello everybody! So, since the beloved “Hunger Games” phenomenon has come to an end, I thought I would share with you a piece of my writing from a couple of years ago when I first read this amazing series! Even though unrelated, this is my next instalment of Twelve Posts of Christmas. Let’s dive into an alternate ending of the first book, “The Hunger Games”!

They sit still in my hand, their colour running down the curved lines on my palm. They are small, yet they can determine my fate of life or death. One bite, one drop of their juice could end my life here, in the arena of the 74th Hunger Games. I look across at the hands of Peeta Mellark, which are stained with the same bluish purple juice as mine. If we both swallowed these berries, we would die here together, in the arena of the 74th Hunger Games.

I remember the weak feeling of hopelessness I felt when Claudius Templesmith’s voice boomed into the arena and declared that there would, in fact, be only one victor of The Hunger Games. I had felt defeat wash over me, for I now had two options. Read More

Peppermint Kiss Cookies

Hey guys! So for the first post from my Twelve Posts of Christmas, I am bringing you my favourite Christmas cookie recipe! Extremely chocolaty with a hint of peppermint, this treat is perfect as a gift or alongside a hot cup of cocoa and will surely make you feel like the holidays are here!

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ teaspoon natural peppermint extract
  • 1 cup white/whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 12 Hershey’s kisses (or big chocolate chips/pieces)

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C/ 350°F
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar for 1-2 min or until light and creamy.
  3. Add egg and peppermint and mix thoroughly.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, salt, baking soda and powder.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the dry and mix until well combined.
  6. Take 1 tbsp. worth of dough and roll it into a ball. Take a Hershey’s Kiss and encase it in the ball of dough, rolling the ball until it’s hidden inside to add a surprise factor to your cookies.
  7. Repeat with the rest of your dough (makes approx. 12 cookies) and place the balls on a lined baking tray.
  8. Bake for 10-15 min.
  9. Transfer to a cooling rack, or eat them straight away!

I hope you enjoyed this recipe and be sure to give it a try! Feel free to leave pictures of your baking creations in the comments below! Also, what is your favourite holiday recipe? I would love to know!
