The Best Oreo Cheesecake!

Hola lovelies! It’s literally been so long since I’ve posted…if this was a real job, I’d be fired by now! School’s been keeping way to busy lately, but since it’s holidays right now I thought I’d share one of my favourite recipes ever. Oreos are magical and cheesecake is one of my favourite desserts ever; put together they are simply a match made in heaven! This recipe is so quick and simple it’s actually crazy. Crazy delicious. So without further ado, here it is!

Ingredients:

  • 40 (ish) Oreo cookies
  • 5 tbsp melted butter
  • 800g cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla essence
  • 300mL thickened cream
  • 8g gelatine (2tsp dissolved in enough boiling water)

Method:

  1. Separate the Oreos (biscuits one bowl and filling in other)
  2. Crush the biscuits using a food processor or place them in a ziplock bag and use a rolling pin. Set aside a sprinklings worth of crumbs for decoration.
  3. Combine cookie crumbs with melted butter, mixing until well combined
  4. Press into the bottom of a pie or cake tin and refrigerate
  5. Blend together the cream cheese, Oreo filling, sugar and vanilla with a hand mixer
  6. In a separate bowl whip the thickened cream before folding it through the cream cheese mixture
  7. Dissolve gelatine in boiling water and add to the mixture
  8. Transfer mixture to the cheesecake tin evenly and sprinkle Oreo crumbs on top
  9. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours min and serve!

And there you have it, my simple but delicious Oreo cheesecake recipe! It’s the perfect dessert to take to a party, or just enjoy all by yourself:)

Have a wonderful week lovelies!

Christmas Gift Guide 2016

Hi loves, Shreya here! How are y’all? Feels like it’s been a hundred years since I’ve posted something…sorry for being so unproductive! This thing called school is just so extremely exhausting sometimes, and I just can’t seem to find the time to blog. But never fear, Christmas is (almost) here! This is usually the time of year when Secret Santa names get picked out, wish lists are made and stores bring out all their amazing Christmas themed presents! So, here are some of the things I would definitely add to my wish list this Christmas:) Now, on to the post…

Notebooks/Diaries138448-03-2
I think notebooks, diaries and stationary in general make really
great presents over Christmas! They fit every price range, are cute and personal and are extremely practical and useful in the New Year. There are so many options when it comes to picking out stationary and I think that’s what makes it so convenient and thoughtful:)

Mugs

420407380_th_1Ahhh ok, here we go! I love mugs. Like, love, love, love mugs! They are so cute, reflect personal style and are really useful…obviously. I take pride in my extensive mug collection and if you get someone a mug for Christmas, they may begin a collection too:) Mugs also come in all shapes and sizes, colours and a range of prices – perfect for anyone who likes a hot drink!

Body Products

Christmas is the time when places like Bath and Body Works, The Body Shop and Lush come out with all their festive Christmas scents, and if you haven’t realised already, I’m a sucker for anything Christmassy! I feel like you just can’t go wrong with shower gels, body butters or bath bombs, especially if you know the persons favourite scents. If you don’t know them that well, you can always stick to a more generic, fresh scent.

Victoria’s Secret Body Sprays

These gifts have been all the rage this year and with all the sales near Christmas, they are bound to have some great discounts at this store. The body sprays seem to last a lifetime, both in the bottle and on your skin. And all tied together with the adorable packaging, they make great gifts!

Spotify Gift cards

gift-cardsI would absolutely love to receive this gift, and it’s perfect for any music lover out there! With this, you are basically opening a person up to a whole world of free music with no data or Wi-Fi needed! These are also great stocking stuffers as well as something you can buy to make the most of your Secret Santa price limit!

And that’s a wrap on my Christmas Gift Guide for this year! I hope to be posting more frequently, especially this month! Happy Holidays loves and stay tuned:)

Time of Death

Hello loves, how are you all? I realised it has been a while since I’ve posted a short story, and since I recently finished writing one a couple of weeks ago, I thought I would share it wth you! ‘Time of Death’ revolves around the idea of a premeditated or ‘perfect’ murder and follows the story of an odd couple who bare dark secrets…Hope you enjoy it and let me know your thoughts in the comments! Happy reading…

Time of Death

“Drink up love,” chirped the sweet voice of Dr Marjorie Reign as she offered her husband a small vile of clear, sticky liquid.  Mr and Mrs Reign lived the sweet life, residing in a heritage property that had been in William’s family for over a century. Mr Reign was a good man, generous, kind hearted and immensely wealthy – part of the reason Marjorie married him. While Will was a gentleman, Marjorie was witty, witty enough to be one of the leading surgeons in the small town where the couple lived. It was an odd marriage with William being twenty-three years older than Marjorie, but age never got in the way of their happiness, despite the speculations of other people. Read More

The Blogger Recognition Award!

Hi loves, Shreya here! Hope you are all having a brilliant week so far:) Around two months ago, I was nominated by the lovely Hanna for this award/tag! As of a couple days ago, I have officially been blogging for one year! That’s right, this blog is now a year old and I couldn’t think of a better time to accept and recognise this award! So, thank you again to Hanna for nominating me…please go check out her blog! I guarantee you will enjoy it as much as I do! Now, onto this award!

Rules:

1. Write a post to show your award.
2. Acknowledge the blogger that nominated you.
3. Give a brief story about how you got started blogging.
4. Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers.
5. Nominate 15 bloggers for the award.

Ooh ok…how did I start blogging? Picture this. Before September last year, I would basically spend a good 30 minutes frantically writing in my journal about absolutely everything that I wanted to say to people, change in the world and speak out about. Just as fulfilling writing in my journal was, I really wanted to express at least a small part of my thoughts to people who agreed with me, disagreed with me or were anywhere in between. I wanted to create my own little corner on the internet to express my thoughts and feelings as well as share snippets of my life with fellow bloggers! So to answer your question, I started blogging because I wanted my thoughts and ideas to be heard while remaining pretty anonymous, while connecting with other people who have similar interests to me:)

Now that I have been blogging for a year, I guess I know a little bit about it? I’m far from being an expert of the blogging world but I do know a couple of things to always remember while blogging

Followers don’t matter! The number of readers never defines how good or not so good your blog content is! Don’t let the number affect your post choices because at the end of the day, quality is better than quantity:)

Stay true to your ideas about your blog – it’s your space. I really think that this is an important practise in the world of blogging because I feel like society is affecting our decisions so much these days, that it is important to make sure the content on your blog represents the ideas that you believe in! Authenticity is key! Show the world the you that YOU want to be, and don’t let the comments completely rule your post ideas:)

I nominate:

Em

Rosypop

Olivia Batt

aVeryAwkwardBlog

Teenella

Thoughtful Tash

Ok, ok. It’s not 15 but these are the bloggers that first came to mind when I thought about this award! Some of these were the first blogs that I’d ever read and really have a special place in my heart:)

So that’s a wrap on this award! Hope y’all have a great week and keep your eyes open for future posts coming very soon! I am forever grateful to those of you who stop by to read my blog…it means more than the world! Love you guys<3

Oatmeal with Raspberries + Cinnamon

Hello my lovely blogger friends…guess who’s back?! I think I owe you an apology for the last two months that I have basically been a dormant volcano. I am so sorry! I’ve just been so busy with school and exams and the million extra curricular activities that I happen to be involved in, which has left me no time to blog…how depressing right?? I’ve basically been sleeping every minute that I’m not studying or singing or playing an instrument, but now that I am on holidays, I promise to be more active:)

So…I thought I’d share with you one of my favourite breakfast ideas that I have been making basically everyday for the two weeks – oatmeal! I was never a huge fan of oatmeal because I found it too heavy and clumpy to eat that early in the morning but since I’ve discovered how to make it more light and fresh, I’ve been in love! So without further ado, here is my favourite oatmeal recipe! It’s pretty much self explanatory but it tastes really good so I was like…just post it :)

img_1491

Ingredients:

  • Your favourite kind of oatmeal (I like to you the ‘Quick’ ones just to speed things up!)
  • Raspberries (I use frozen raspberries because they are inexpensive and can be easily stored)
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Honey

Method:

  1. Prepare your oatmeal using the directions on the package. I like to make about 1/5 cup of oats and use lite milk while microwaving:)
  2. Decorate your oatmeal with your raspberries, cinnamon and a drizzle of honey and enjoy straight away!

Tip: I like to prepare my oats the night before so I don’t have to wake up earlier to make them! Then, I just add a little milk or water in the morning before adding my toppings:)

img_1492

And there you have it- easier than making toast, and so much healthier! Oatmeal keeps me full for a while until lunch and is great for when you are on the go:) Let me know of you try out this recipe and let me know your favourite way to spice up oatmeal!

Love and warm hugs,

A Walk To Remember – Book/Movie Review!

Hello everybody, Shreya here! How are you all? I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready for a productive week ahead:) OK. Before I begin this post, I just wanted to let you all know, that I am a major sucker for books that have been turned into movies – if they have been done well, obviously. I am also prone to having majorly uncontrollable obsessions with books, movies, storylines, people…the list goes on! I know some of you feel the same way about these things and I would love to hear about your frequent obsessions! So before I explode with emotion and craze, let’s move on to this post!

About a week ago, I discovered the movie ‘A Walk To Remember’,the story of two North Carolina teens who go through some pretty tragic stuff while they fall in love. I saw the movie first, then proceeded to read the book and I think it is safe to say that I have been officially bitten by the Nicholas Sparks bug, which has now caused me to be extremely over emotional over basically any book or movie I read or watch…anyway, back to the story! (Also, the soundtrack is oh so amazing so it gets extra credit from me:)

‘A Walk To Remember’ follows the story of Landon Carter, the typical bad boy with a troubled past who has no drive to do well in school, or life for that matter. Due to circumstances, he crosses paths with Jamie Sullivan, the shy daughter of the minister of the local church. As the story progresses, Landon and Jamie become close and eventually fall in love. The story then takes a major left turn when Jamie confesses a deep secret to Landon, and it’s basically downhill from there on. The two then learn the true meaning of life, love and what it means to stay by someones side until their last breath

This story truly pulls at the old heartstrings and will probably leave you stranded with a pile of tissues around you…you have been warned. But in all seriousness, this story truly changed my outlook on life and literature in general and I can definitely say that it is now one of my favourite novels I have read, and definitely one of my favourite movies!

Also, can we just take a minute to appreciate how cute Landon Carter is? All my friends would probably give me weird looks once they searched him up, but for a guy in 2002, I would say he was pretty good looking;) If his looks aren’t really doing it for you, I can assure you his character surely will. I cannot count the number of times I have thought why there aren’t really 18 year old guys who are as charming, sweet and romantic as Landon…but I guess there’s nothing new about that. Guys in novels really are too good to be true.

This is probably the cheesiest post I have written. Probably the most crazy and the most personal. But that’s who I am, I guess. Just any geeky teenager with my nose in a novel and my head in the clouds, dreaming of people from the novel. I guess I’m proud of it, you know? I never want to get to the point where I have to hide who I really am because I’m not ‘cool’ enough! Ok this got too deep too quickly…

Anyways, I highly recommend that you watch this movie if you haven’t already! It came out 14 years ago so I suppose some of you would have seen it, and if so, please let me know, for I feel as if I’m alone in this ‘A Walk To Remember’ world and I have absolutely no one to talk about this with!!

Hope you all have an amazing week!

When I Write A Little More…

Hello loves, hope you are all having a lovely weekend and making the most out of your days! About 6 months ago, I had posted a segment of a short story I had been writing and I had called the post When I Write…. You can check it out here if you would like:) Since then, I have been contemplating whether or not to post another snippet of the piece and after writing a fair amount, I decided to give it a try. So here is Chapter Two of the nameless novel I have been writing when times get rough. Do you find writing therapeutic? On a bad day, I let myself get lost on my own hurricane of thoughts and then por my heart, mind and should out onto pages and Word Documents. Maybe it’s just me, but there’s a chance that thee are people much like yourself, who do the same.

Chapter Two

“Lana?” whispered Mike from across the room – I didn’t even notice he was there. “Are you ok?”

I was far from ok. I had just woken up only to find that my home was a crime scene and that my parents may not be alive! Though, I still let Mike walk across the room to where I was laying and wrap me into a brotherly hug. Despite being younger than me by three hours, he was the only person with whom I felt most protected. My friends always ranted on about how annoying their brothers were but Mike and I were very close. Everyone said it was because we were twins but I don’t believe that’s particularly true. Sure, we felt unique and connected because of this but I believe that we were close because we simply enjoyed each other’s company. We held each other up through hard times – trust me, we’ve been through a lot – and were each other’s closest friend. I loved Mike and I didn’t feel weird saying it like others did about their brothers.

“Where are mum and dad?” I asked. “Are they alright?”

Mike knew that what I really meant by that was, “are they alive?” and cringed at the sound of those words.

“We’re not sure yet Lana”. He always called me Lana. “They were taken to hospital last night after you blacked out. You were brought here shortly after. You were unconscious Lana, in shock! If you hadn’t been brought here on time, you could have…you could have died.

A single tear trickled down his left cheek, his eyes glassy and bloodshot. He hadn’t slept last night. How could he? The rest of his family were in hospital with their lives on the line! I wiped away the tear with my cold, pale hand and told him it would be ok. He was my little brother after all and I would do anything to protect him.

Just as I was about to speak, a girl with flying brown locks came running into the hospital room. It was Maya, my best friend. She was like another third of me and I was the same to her for the nine years that we’d known each other. She was small like me, with beautiful, crazy hair and the biggest heart you could ever find. We did everything together! We shopped together, studied together, went to the movies, gossiped and even got bored together. Now, wearing her pyjamas with her hair everywhere and with no shoes on her feet, I couldn’t be more relieved to see her.

“Alanna!” she cried, and rushed to my bedside. “Are you ok? I came here as fast as I could! The police told me everything…I…I heard it on the news this morning. Mike! How are you? God, I was so worried!” the words just kept coming until she finally slumped down onto the creaky plastic chair, clearly out of breath and out of energy.

“Oh Maya!” I replied, suddenly feeling so overwhelmed with relief and appreciation. “I’m…I’m ok, I guess. I blacked out last night. Apparently it was from shock. I’m so glad you’re here! But how did you get here this early?”

“I ran”, she replied simply, as if it was the most obvious thing to do. And even then, when I was trapped in a hospital bed with my parents’ life in danger, I couldn’t help but smile at her sincerity. She sat gingerly on the side of my bed and held my hand reassuringly. At this moment, when life was like a hurricane, I knew I had my two best friends here with me to calm the storm, at least for now. So I laid my head back down onto the soft, feathery pillow and let the sound of soft whispers put me to sleep.

There you have it, the second chapter of this story with no name that lives in the back of my mind for most of the time. I hope you enjoyed it, and if you had no idea what was happening, you probably haven’t read chapter one! Here’s the link once more: Chapter One. Have a lovely day, stay positive, and don’t be afraid to dream every now and them:)

Let’s Talk About: Negative Influence

Sometimes life can be real difficult…don’t you think? Every second of every day, we are constantly worrying about how somebody else will react to what we do, or say, or think or believe in. Our thoughts are clouded with the shadows of other people’s opinions that prevent us from seeing clearly, seeing the world how WE want to. Some people call it inspiration. Some call it influence. I say it is both, yet neither. Inspiration is a positive way of taking someone else’s actions and words into thought while we progress in life. Influence is what people have on other people, which may not always be a good thing. Inspiration is optional. Influence is not as easy to prevent.

Do you ever think back on a decision you made in the past that was influenced by somebody else’s decision or opinion? I know I have. Do you think your decision would have been completely different if you hadn’t been influenced by another person? Would it have been better in the long run? Would it have been the same?

What I really want to say is, that you should live life for YOU. Accomplish what YOU want every day. Go by what YOU believe in without worrying what other people might think. Stand up for causes that YOU are passionate about, regardless of the amount of support you receive. Act the way YOU want. Talk the way YOU want. Be the way that YOU want to be, because at the end of the day, no one knows what’s best for you more than yourself.

I believe that there is a reason that we are all so different from each other. We have the ability to inspire and influence each other in a positive way, which can be extremely powerful. However, if we all started acting the same way and talking the same and behaving the same, we lose our own authenticity and the authenticity of our society.

So from today, break the boundaries of negative influence in society and be who YOU want to be. Inspire others by your own individuality and help bring out the best in everyone around you! Aspire to be the best you can be, and don’t let the opinions of the people around you limit your imagination and creativity!

Don’t wait for others to accept you into their ways of life, show them that you are better than that. Don’t let people mould you into clones of themselves because you are better than that. At the end of the day, authenticity is key, and there is nobody in this world quite like you:)
